Kiralama okulları, özel şirketler tarafından yönetilen vergi mükellefi tarafından finanse edilen K-12 okullarıdır. Norveç’te 63 Montessori ve 32 Steiner (Waldorf) charter okulu, bazı dini okullar ve Oslo Uluslararası Okulu, Alman Okulu Max Tau ve Fransız Lisesi Lycée Français gibi toplam 11 devletten oluşan 11 okul bulunmaktadır. Tüm kiralama okulları kabul öncelikleri listesine sahip olabilir, ancak sadece hükümet dışı finanse edilen okulların öğrencilerini seçmelerine ve kar elde etmelerine izin verilir. Kiralama okulları giriş sınavlarına giremez ve ek ücretler çok kısıtlıdır. 2013 yılında, özel okullarda toplam 19.110 çocuk kayıt edilmiştir.
