Founded in 1884, it is Norway's oldest political party, and its name reflects its origins in the 19th-century struggle against the conservative forces of the time, rather than an alignment with what is currently considered left-wing politics. Today, Venstre positions itself in the center to center-right of the political spectrum, emphasizing liberalism in both economic and social terms.
